Summer at the Mill

When I arrived four boys were daring each other to jump off the bridge into the icy cold water above the dam.

I had considered doing the same thing as a young man and now I wish I had taken the dare. Then they all jumped together.

Today another young man spent the afternoon fishing with his grandfather in the backwater. As I watched they each were successful, and I listened as the old man explained to the youngster why releasing the fish back into the river would make it possible for them or another man and his son to catch them again on another day.

Later, the little guy asked if he could jump off the bridge. His grandfather said that he could one day soon, and he hoped he would be around to see him do it.
