Needles Eye

This spire of granite along Needles Highway in Custer State Park in South Dakota near Mt. Rushmore was a sight to behold on a sunny morning.
The road through Custer State Park is narrow and parking is almost non-existent where it goes through one of two tunnels along the fourteen mile stretch of road  blasted through the rock and the spire reaches for the sky.
I focused my attention on the sunlight shinning on the side of the needle as tourists drove slowly past to avoid hitting me in the constricted corner.
A few minutes later I had the place to myself and watched the light change the rock to grey.
The line of cars re-appeared and people moved on not knowing what they had missed.
