Close Encounter
There is a dirt road in the Badlands National park leading west that leads to a prairie dog village where most people stop, look and turn around.
I kept going to see what was further on.
I had plenty of water, snacks and good shock absorbers on the car which were pushed to their limits on the washboard track.
As I topped a small hill I stopped at the sight of this buffalo quietly munching on grass less than fifteen feet from the car.
My wife was sure it was a statue put there by the parks department until it looked in our direction.
This photograph was taken through the passengers car window and has not been changed in any way other than cropping out the window frame of the car.
